Fry’s Cocoa, advertising postcard, beginning of the 20th century
Owner: Antarctic Heritage Trust, New-Zealand.
This postcard was included as advertising by the Company J.S. Fry & Sons in their boxes of cocoa powder. The postcard comes from the collection of c.18,000 artefacts at Terra Nova Hut, the expedition base built by Captain Robert Falcon Scott and party during his 1910-1913 expedition to Antarctica. Colour-printed onto paper, the postcard was very fragile, and was structurally and chemically damaged. After cleaning, washing and de-acidification, the paper has been repaired with Japanese tissue and flattened.
